Now in its 20th year and with a far-reaching new format, the EUROMAT Summit is set to attract professionals from every aspect of land-based gaming. The newly extended summit programme will devote a full day to the topic of Social Responsibility and in particular self exclusion, consumer protection and problem gambling.
Organisers have confirmed that Pieter Remmers, a leading figure in the area of responsible gaming, will be chairing the panel: Managing Social Responsibility In Different Gaming Channels.
Pieter started his career as director of an outpatient clinic for addiction problems. His company, Assissa Consultancy has worked on responsible gambling policies for a large array of countries, including the Netherlands, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Spain, Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, Malta and Sweden.
Pieter is engaged by regulators and government bodies, along with online and land based casinos, slot halls, lotteries and other clients in the betting and gaming sectors. His past and current commercial clients include IGT/GTech, Holland Casino, Unibet, Sun International, Svenska Spel and Gauselmann/Merkur, with whom he is a member of the Group’s Responsible Gambling Commission. Other clients, past and present, include Betsson, Fair play Casinos, Lotto NL, Casino 2000, the Italian SNAI, Betfair and The National Lottery (UK).
Pieter also advises a number of trade associations and serves as Secretary General of the European Association for the Study of Gambling, as well as being a board member of Human Assistance Network for Daily Support (HANDS).
In 2003 Pieter was the initiator of the Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4) and is its current Chairman. In 2009 he became a member of the Responsible Gaming Committee of International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL).
As might be expected, Pieter is a very regular contributor to conferences around the world and speaking about the EUROMAT Summit, Pieter confirmed: “I have been working with the land-based gaming industry for over 30 years. However, there is still a lot of work to do in this ever changing regulatory environment where Responsible Gaming is a top priority, if not THE top priority.
“I am happy to share my ideas, thoughts and knowledge with the EUROMAT members and other interested parties and take the next steps on this very exiting road.”
EUROMAT President Jason Frost is in absolute agreement about the importance of Responsible Gaming: “We’re delighted that Pieter will be joining us for the Summit. His experience in the area of Responsible Gaming is both wide-reaching and deep. Pieter will bring his experience to bear on an area which we need to deal with, both on a human level, and because failure to do so could threaten the very existence of our industry,” informed Jason.
The 2018 event will take place from 4-5th June at the stunning Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort. Conveniently located, within a half hour’s travel time of Nice airport, the property is set in lush gardens on its own peninsula. With excellent leisure facilities and award-winning food, the venue should provide the perfect backdrop for both the formal sessions and relaxed networking events.
