With preparations for the bacta SR Exchange now being finalised, bacta has reported that the event’s unique format is receiving an enthusiastic response from professionals focused on protecting people from gambling related harm. The event will draw together regulators, operators, researchers and third sector organisations actively involved in treatment and support for those with gambling related problems.
In a ground-breaking initiative, operators are being encouraged to ask front-line staff to attend the event and to actively participate in a series of practical workshops exploring real-world situations and examples. Workshop topics will include self exclusion, the identification of problematic gaming, issues surrounding dementia, new social responsibility initiatives, the evaluation of any social responsibility initiative, helping and safeguarding vulnerable groups, the use of technology and local risk assessments.
Iain Corby of GambleAware will be facilitating the Self-Exclusion workshop, focusing on the handling of customer requests for self-exclusion.
Looking forward to his role as Facilitator, Iain explained, “GambleAware is an independent charity tasked to fund research, education and treatment services to help to reduce gambling-related harms in Great Britain. We welcome this new opportunity to engage with bacta’s members, share our latest Strategic Development Plan which sets out our activities over the next two years, and explore practical ways to reduce the risk of harms across the sector.”
Iain joined GambleAware as Director of Operations and Development in September 2015 and became Deputy Chief Executive in March 2017. His previous experience includes working in consulting as a senior manager, specialising in programme management at Deloitte, and managing a 20 strong policy research team in Westminster. Immediately prior to his appointment, he worked as Operations Director for a social enterprise which inspires young people around the world to volunteer with local charities.
Ian has a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Balliol College, Oxford and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management.
With policy makers, regulators, operating businesses and sharp-end staff, the bacta SR exchange is believed to be the most inclusive event of its type; ever.
