In a nationwide survey on gaming arcades conducted by the German news magazine Focus, CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK, a subsidiary of the family-run Gauselmann Group from Espelkamp in eastern Westphalia, was voted “most popular gaming arcade”.

The company achieved the highest rating of “very good” in the five categories judged – “Professionalism”, “Games offering”, “Service”, “Staff” and “Atmosphere” – and thus took first place overall. “I am proud of this fantastic result, as it proves once again that CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK has an excellent overall concept that is hard to
beat,” says company founder Paul Gauselmann.

The survey is based on over 1,400 customer ratings. It was conducted by “Deutschland Test” in collaboration with the business magazine “Focus Money” and the Cologne analysis and consulting firm “ServiceValue”. Customers cast their vote online in 26 sub-categories relating to the individual categories. In the “Staff” category, for example, participants were asked to rate the competence, friendliness and appearance of staff. Under “Service”, whether refreshments are served and practical assistance played an important role. “Good service starts with good staff. That’s why we place great emphasis on continuous initial and advanced training,” stresses Dieter Kuhlmann, Board of Management Member for the Spielothek Division of Gauselmann AG. The games offering also received a “very good” rating from the customers.

“At our entertainment centres we offer an attractive games mix on state-of-the-art gaming machines, most of which are developed and produced at our facility in Lübbecke. We keep a very close eye on the market and know what games are currently popular. This is something our customers appreciate,” Paul Gauselmann explains. CASINO MERKURSPIELOTHEK also received “very good” in the categories “Professionalism” and “Atmosphere”, earning the company first place overall. This year and last year CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK received Focus magazine’s “Top National Employer” award. In 2013, the company with the laughing Merkur sun was awarded the “Service Champion Bronze” seal by the daily newspaper “Die Welt” and was voted number one in the “Gaming Arcades” category. In Germany alone, the company employs a staff of 3,250 at 239 entertainment centres.

Since 2008, CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK has offered training in the newly created industry-specific occupations of coin-op service technician and coin-op specialist. The company also offers a wide range of advanced
training opportunities. These are mostly held at the company’s dedicated training centre at Schloss Benkhausen, which the entrepreneurial family acquired in 2010 and had extensively converted and renovated.
